As a dog owner, it’s essential to understand your responsibilities to ensure the welfare of your pet and maintain safety. Below are key responsibilities and the relevant legislation:

𝟭. 𝗗𝗼𝗴 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗲
Your dog’s wellbeing is a priority. Under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006, you must ensure your dog is provided with proper care, food, shelter, and exercise.

𝟮. 𝗗𝗼𝗴 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
➡️ Your dog must wear a collar and tag with your name and address, as required by the Control of Dogs Order 1992.
➡️ Microchipping is mandatory under the Microchipping of Dogs (Scotland) Regulations 2016.

𝟯. 𝗗𝗼𝗴 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴
Clean up after your dog in public places. Failing to do so can lead to penalties under the Dog Fouling (Scotland) Act 2003.

𝟰. 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗻𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵:
➡️ The Environmental Protection Act 1990 (Sections 149-150) or
➡️ Section 49 of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982.

𝟱. 𝗗𝗼𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹
You must ensure your dog is under proper control in public areas, as outlined in the Control of Dogs (Scotland) Act 2010.

𝟲. 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗗𝗼𝗴𝘀
Certain breeds and behaviours are restricted under:
